Impact of the Program

"You have to grow from the inside out."                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     Swami Vivekananda

Purpose

Are we on the right track towards achieving our goals? The survey is an attempt to understand the impact of the program on the young minds ensuring better delivery and impact of the program.

Approach

A hybrid approach (quantitative and qualitative) was used to conduct Teacher Impact survey on 2011 teachers from all categories of schools (Kendriya Vidyalayas, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, Private and Govt. schools). A Student Impact survey was conducted using the same approach on 3544 students from all categories.

The story so far

Our story started as early as 2013 when we studied the impact at the pilot stage of the ACP program. The resultant figure of 78% students being impacted was very encouraging.

From 2014 when the ACP rolled out we have been documenting experiential narratives from a range of stakeholders. Not being satisfied with only these, we conducted an exhaustive impact survey in 2020-2021 for ACP, our flagship program. The results of this survey have been highly rewarding and given us a deeper insight into the program. The endorsement of ACP  by Government  bodies such as CBSE and our being included with Government think tanks is a test of our expertise in this field. The Government of India consults us on issues related to value education as they did recently when we were invited by the NCF committee with regard to the curriculum for Value Education.

Teachers speak openly about how their work and personal relationships have improved. They feel less stressed. Students have developed an ‘I CAN’ attitude all over the country. Students are taking pride in being honest, helpful, respectful, accepting of others’ perspectives, seeking truth before jumping to conclusions. During the pandemic, teachers told us how the program helped them connect with children and parents. As self-worth increases, children are excelling in studies and extra-curricular activities also.

Outcome

Our impact story does tell us that we are getting the outcomes we are looking for!!!

Impact on students - Shift in students towards being awakened citizens, realizing their infinite possibilities, shifts in behavior, higher aspirations, and a shift towards excellence in their academic work. Greater concern towards others and increased helpfulness.  their interpersonal interactions and acceptance of others. Greater pro-activeness in their engagement with life and situations, accepting failures, and showing greater responsibility in their choices.

Changes observed in Teachers - A change in the way they see students and the way that they teach, auguring a deeper and greater long-term impact. Teachers’ understanding of the power of their role, their perceptions of new ways of teaching or pedagogies, and their interpersonal interactions.

"My students are from the villages of Uttar Pradesh and the lack of confidence used to be a hurdle in their development when they joined us, but this ACP has given us an opportunity that allows us to take the classroom learning beyond academics and open new horizons for our students. The way they conduct assemblies, respond to questions, talk to visitors, show interest in the social and political agendas makes it obvious that they are coming out of their shells and are at par with any other urban student.”
